Marine litter is an increasing threat to the health of European marine ecosystems, with costly environmental, economic and social consequences. It is a problem that involves multiple inputs and items and there are no boundaries to its dispersal.

In 2012 the European Commission published a staff working document on EU legislation relevant to the marine litter issue and indicated that in some areas improvements in legislation and better implementation are required in order to tackle the problem.

SAR has commissioned the Institute of European Environmental Policy to carry out the study.

The event is taking place in Brussels and is now fully subscribed.
