Seas At Risk is delighted to announce that the Irish Wildlife Trust is joining our network, bringing our membership to 32 organisations in 16 EU countries.
The Irish Wildlife Trust was founded in 1979 and works to create a better future for Ireland’s wildlife by motivating and supporting people to take action to protect biodiversity. The Trust works through campaigning and advocacy, public engagement events, citizen science projects, practical conservation activities and community/school education.
The Irish Wildlife Trust is already taking an active role in Seas At Risk activities, as a consortium member of the project ‘Making Marine Protected Areas work in Europe’. Led by Seas At Risk, the project is funded by the Oceans 5 and is a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. Within this project, the Irish Wildlife Trust has identified areas at sea that need protection due to their exceptional habitat or the presence of particular species. This year, the NGO is working to ensure that human activities taking place in marine protected areas are not harmful but, rather, compatible with the objectives of protection.
Members’ contributions are central to Seas At Risk’s success in shaping European policies by ensuring their implementation at national level. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members for their invaluable contributions.
