A new video produced on the reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy and Transferable Fishing Concessions (TFCs) has highlighted the serious problems associated with such a market based allocation of fishing quota or days.

The video focuses on the European Commission’s proposal for the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy and in particular the possibility within the proposal to have mandatory introduction of TFCs in European fisheries. It shows how such a market based approach can lead to financial speculation dictating how fish stocks are managed and the disastrous state of affairs that can result from such a management approach.

The film was produced by Seas At Risk member organisation Levende Hav (Denmark) along with Africa Contact and PUGAD, who together have set up the coalition group the ‘Fishing Professionally Network’.
