SAR Portuguese member LPN is continuing its series of monthly talks on fisheries. The January debate is available on a live webstream and will assess control and combat measures concerning illegal, unreported and unregulated fisheries.

Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fisheries is a worldwide problem threatening the stability of natural resources and also the survival of the fishing industry. However, in as far as control and combat measures are concerned there exists considerable conflict between legislators, fisherman and supervisory bodies.

The League for the Protection of Nature’s aim is to better understand the national position of Portugal on IUU fisheries and to facilitate discussion between the different stakeholders.

The debate is taking place at LPN’s Lisbon office and will feature government officials and industry representatives. It is free and open to all, from 18.30 on January 31.
