Seas At Risk’s Croatian member organisation Sunce is joining forces with other Mediterranean NGOs in a new campaign to protect the Adriatic Sea from new oil and gas exploration.

Recent plans from the Croatian government for new licences have brought the threat of spills and environmentally insensitive development to the fore, and the campaign aims to activate the public against these plans.

Currently, the campaign is run by NGOs within the Croatian environmental network Green Forum (Zeleni forum): Zelena akcija/Friends of the Earth Croatia, Sunce, Zelena Istra, Žmergo and BIOM, in cooperation with Greenpeace Croatia, and WWF Adria. These groups are hoping to join partners in neighbouring Slovenia and even further afield.

They have recently launched their web site and Facebook page, and have also made submissions to the public consultation process. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg in the fight against this project.
