Gareth Cunningham is the Director for Conservation and Policy and worked for Marine Conservation Society since 2021.
Covering the breadth of our policy work, Gareth has nearly 2 decades experience in Marine Conservation. Ranging from work as a Nature regulator, to over a decade working as part of the Global birdlife family, working to restore globally important seabird colonies both in the UK and across Europe.  With a background in Fisheries management, nature restoration and effective marine management, Gareth now leads our teams in securing the urgent transformation needed to deliver healthy UK seas, both to tackle the nature and climate crises, but also to secure sustainable investment and social-economic wins. As part of the UN Decade for Ocean Science focus group on Ocean Acidification, Gareth is helping to identify tangible solutions to climate change that will also benefit UK seas and communities.
