The LookDown Collective will bring together personalities and young activists from European countries that have not yet taken a position on deep-sea mining: Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, and Portugal.

The objective of the action: to ask EU countries to support a moratorium on deep-sea mining!

Join us for ‘Deep-sea mining: An avoidable threat for the ocean, marine life & coastal communities’, a meeting of the European Parliament’s SEArica Intergroup. The meeting will focus on pathways for European action to protect deep-sea ecosystems from harmful deep-sea mining.

The meeting is hosted by Members of the European Parliament Caroline Roose and Marie Toussaint, and organised with the support of Seas At Risk and the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition.

Dr Monica Verbeek, Executive Director of Seas At Risk, will present our new paper, ‘The unsustainability of deep-sea mining: Unearthing threats to the UN Sustainable Development Goals’.

Interpretation will be provided in English, French and Spanish, and a small reception will be held after the event.
