Studied Biology at the University of Hanover, Germany, and Aquatic Biosciences at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and then did her PhD on nutrient cycling in mangroves of Northern Brazil at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research in Bremen.
After a further period of research on remote sensing of phytoplankton communities at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, she has been working since 2014 in the marine protection office of the Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland e.V. (BUND) on various topics in the field of German and international marine protection.
Her main expertise are in the topics of underwater noise, marine biodiversity, implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), marine protected areas and carbon storage in marine sediments.
