Investments in deep sea mining exploration are on the rise, driven by the growing demand for the metals needed for renewable energy infrastructures and electric vehicles. The rush to mine the deep sea, however, might cause large-scale, irreversible biodiversity loss in these vastly unknown ecosystems.
After the environmental destruction brought by land mining, we need to rethink our (over)use of natural resources and bring it back within planetary boundaries.
