Seas At Risk has responded to the European Commission’s call for evidence for the EU Port Strategy, with the hopes of aligning and bringing true decarbonisation to shipping, urging Member States to urgently address the triple planetary crisis: climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity, through adaptation and mitigation.

European posts must:

  • align with planetary boundaries and social foundations
  • advocate for swift decarbonisation
  • advocate for post-growth principles
  • ecological integrity
  • circular economy
  • and social justice.

Our comments focus on the requirements for energy transition, the importance of protecting ecosystems and biodiversity in and around ports, pollution prevention and circularity.
