The Blue Manifesto is a new rescue plan for Europe to make our ocean healthy by 2030. The plan lays out concrete actions that must be delivered by set dates if we are to turn the tide on ocean and coastline pollution and degradation:

  • At least 30% of the ocean must be fully – or highly - protected by 2030
  • Shift to low-impact fishing
  • Securing a pollution-free ocean
  • Planning human activities that support the restoration of thriving marine ecosystems

In the European Green Deal, the European Commission has committed to implementing climate and biodiversity strategies that will shift investment and legislation towards a climate-resilient and ecologically diverse future. The Blue Manifesto is a guideline on how to make the ocean an integral part of this green plan. Implementing the recommendations in the Blue Manifesto will place Europe in a leading role in protecting and restoring the ocean on which we all depend.

The Blue Manifesto was launched by Seas At Risk, together with BirdLife Europe, ClientEarth, Oceana, Surfrider Foundation Europe and the WWF. It has been backed by 102 environmental organisations.
