Small-scale fishers in the Mediterranean are sounding the alarm. Fishers from France, Spain and Cyprus describe the dramatic decline of fish populations over recent decades, the damaged ecosystems due to intensive traveling and climate change, and the deterioration of the livelihoods of those who depend on them. Their testimonies highlight a critical point: the crisis is not due to EU fisheries law itself, but to years of weak implementation and enforcement. The Common Fisheries Policy already requires fish populations to be restored and maintained above healthy levels. When properly applied, this law can rebuild fish populations, support coastal communities and ensure long-term sustainability. We do not need a new fisheries law, we need to make sure the current rules are duly implemented and enforced. Watch the video, like and leave a comment!
