Across the Mediterranean, many small-scale fishers recognise the importance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in restoring marine ecosystems and supporting more resilient fisheries.

In this short testimony, fishers from Spain, France and Cyprus share their firsthand experiences. Their message is clear: MPAs can deliver rapid ecological and socio-economic benefits, but weak enforcement and limited monitoring can quickly undermine their effectiveness.

These insights reflect a broader reality. While the Common Fisheries Policy provides the tools needed to restore fish populations and protect marine ecosystems, its success ultimately depends on consistent and ambitious implementation.
