Seas At Risk, together with 17 other NGOs, writes a letter to EU and UK decision-makers to start making science-based decisions on fisheries. The letter addresses Virginijus Sinkevičius, EU Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, and Ranil Jayawardena MP, UK Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and urges them to heed their respective governments’ commitments to low impact fisheries by 2020 and set fishing catch limits that consider both the biodiversity and climate crises. The letter asks the leaders to deliver on controlling fisheries, ending bycatch, adhering to science-backed catch limits, and more.
