The ocean is full of life, from simple plankton all the way up to great whales, and the delicate ecosystems and interactions between sea life help keep our planet’s climate and health in balance.

But this delicate balance is under threat.

From irreparable damage to the seabed, to depleting fish populations, to incidental catches of sensitive and vulnerable species like sharks and dolphins, human activities are having a devastating impact on the ocean – even in areas that are supposedly ‘protected’ from harm.

Luckily, all hope is not lost! We have a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to turn the tide: a law to #RestoreNature and #RestoreOcean.

What makes this opportunity unique is that this law will legally oblige EU countries to restore a set amount of nature. If they fail, they can be held accountable, and taken to court.

For the ocean, this could mean that EU countries have to restore and protect 30% of their waters from damaging human activities by 2030.

Right now, governments across the EU are discussing this new law. Join us and over 200 NGOs and ask your decision-makers to adopt a strong and urgent implementation of the law that can curb the nature and climate crises. It’s time we let the blue lung of our planet breathe again.

You are just one step away from making a difference for the ocean and nature: send an ocean picture (upload your own or choose one from our library) and letter to your government and Members of the European Parliament!
