Marine biodiversity is declining at unprecedented rates in human history with disastrous impacts for ecosystems and people. With the Nature Restoration Law, policy makers are planning to restore degraded marine habitats and ecosystems. The restoration process will take a lot of time and effort. To prevent restored marine habitats and ecosystems being threatened by the same source of distress that caused their degradation, it is important to combine restoration at sea with conservation measures. Restoration will be long lasting and effective only if ecosystems are duly protected after being restored.
